Poor paws

So, I tried to take photos of Lu’s paw pads just now and it’s really actually quite difficult to show the “damage”.

I don’t think it’s that bad (and I feel like I’m overreacting here), but she is missing chunks of the outer layer of pad in some sections. 😦

So I was mostly kidding about it being part of the jumping issue, though maybe they are actually making her angry. She wasn’t keen on me playing with them to take photos though I don’t really blame her. Is this amount of wear normal, or is she just a freak with lame girly paws? She never walks or runs on concrete either so I guess this is just from bushwalking and rock scrambling…

Sorry for the horrible photos.

paws1

1 back paw- pink bit is ‘exposed’ skin, brown bit is normal outer paw-pad.

paws2

Front paw – a deep crack on the top part and a ‘hole’

paws3

Another back paw – Another crack and another hole, like the front paw… not the best photo, I think the ‘hole’ goes off into the side bit of the paw…I’m not really explaining this very well.

A picture of the time that Mal peed on a bush while Lumen was sniffing it and so she got peed on the face. Just cos it's a funny photo and all these depressive paw wounds need some comic relief.

  1. One of our dogs (BC Fred) has the exact same thing right now. From going in the water, then back on the rocky trail. He’s pretty ticked off about it as well. Don’t touch his FEET! he gets soooo mad.

      • Em says:

Shipping from Clean Run to AU for one bottle is $40 by itself. 😦 I’m trying to get a quote from somewhere else, also in America, but maybe cheaper. Hopefully!

      • Yeah CR has crazy shipping fees, but if you can make a group order and get it delivered to one address it wouldn’t be so bad. That’s what I did.

    • Em says:

Boo. I found it at one site – the rest don’t tend to ship to Australia- and it’s $40, which seems a lot considering if I was in the US it would be $20. 😦

  2. Em, you might ask a large vet hospital in your area if they have something similar. Normally cold climates have this sort of thing for sled dogs and such… so maybe you’d not find it, but a vet might be able to get it cheaper.
